Planning to present my PyCon AU talk to an internal audience at MYOB, I realised the title An EV trip planner for Australia, while entirely appropriate for an Australian conference on Python, wasn’t as inclusive as it could be for the members of a technology organisation encompassing Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
So trippler now supports EV road trips in Aotearoa New Zealand!

Changes
This update, much like the previous expansion from Victoria to the whole of Australia, didn’t require much effort. I simply expanded again the geographic area in which places may be resolved and from which chargers are selected.
I also made the same changes in the stoppler app.
Observations and limitations
OpenChargeMap lists almost as many chargers in Aotearoa New Zealand as in Australia – 980 vs 1230 – at a much greater density for NZ’s smaller area (equivalent to 28,000 Australian chargers). More chargers on-route degraded charger selection performance on longer trips, so I’ve excluded chargers 22kW or less for now.
I may yet unearth strange bugs, but at least route validation between the regions works as expected!
